iPhone, uPhone, we all phone!

iPhoneIf Apple would be a car brand I guess it would be Porsche. It could actually been driven by everyone, because all the Low-Ends are affortable for anyone. They really did kinda revolutionary stuff in the mid/end 90’s, but since they’ve started cooperating with BMW (Intel) that much their technology isn’t really something special anymore. All they sell now is image: The cars look damn sexy and imply lifestyle and coolness by default. “Uhh, look, I bought the new Boxster! It’s small, handy and has enough space in its trunk for all my music. Besides I can also pack in podcasts, TV shows and audiobooks. The windshield is a bit small but the new steering wheel is just great: I can rotate it by using only one finger! Too bad I need to go to the gas station every 4 hours.“, or “Whoa, look at my new 911! It’s hell-fast, looks hot with that glossy new color and it’s available with two different windshields: Matt or shiny! The bolts are a bit confusing, since you won’t find them where you search ‘em but at least there is an additional remote-steeringwheel I can buy for $-too-much to drive my Porsche driverless! Isn’t that great?!?“. But now, Prosc… err.. Apple really seems to go crazy: The first Apple mobile-phone called “iPhone” will be available at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008.
I watched the demonstration of that iPhone on Apple’s website and I must say that it really got me interessted. In generally I’m not a fan of all these Apple-Hypes like iPod or iWhatever but if Apple holds their promises regarding the iPhone it could really become some sexy gear. Actually the iPhone is more like a mix of an usual PDA, an iPod and some OS X with iChat and Safari on it. You can listen to music, you can create phone-meetings by merging calls together using the “Merge” button, you can navigate through the city and find locations your interessted in, you can connect to the Web using wireless lan for example and browse sites with Safari, you can watch pictures or videos, you can… dude, I think I also heard something about coffee. ;)
And what will that mobile-phone-incarnation of Emacs cost? I read something about seven- to eight-hundred bugs, but I expect it to be a bit more expensive. In america it seems like “Cingular” will be the one and only to provide that mobile phone a bit cheaper in combination with some phone contract, here in Germany Apple didn’t yet mention any provider as far as I know.
However, I really am a bit (a little bit, not much, just a little bit) excited about that phone and the functions (and stabillity!) it will actually provide. Also I’m already thinking of all the funny bugs Apple might ship in their first iPhones, since they are absolute n00bs on that market, heh, … let’s see.
